I've been crewing on someone else's J-92 for a number of years now and I'm have decided I now want to be in charge. The Sonata looks like a potential good first boat, one-design, small crew, sailed in the Solent and with a purchase price I can afford (upto £6k). However I'd like some idea of what the running costs will be and what clubs in the Solent are active. Any help or Advice would be greatfully recived. Luke Phillips

Luke, Although I am not a South Coast Sonata sailor, I thought you might be interested in the National Sonata class at Cowes Week. This would be an excellent venue to find out more (4-11th August 2001). The website address is below http://www.cowesweek.co.uk/2001/main.php?section=home&map=cw01&style=std Look under boats and class info -> National Sonata I sail in Scotland and I reckon to spend about £1000 per annum average on maintainence/sails/racing insurance etc. (this does not include costs of berthing) Andrew Fernie (Class Secretary) lives in the south (andchris@ntlworld.com) and he will be able to give you loads more info. ------------------
