I'm in the process of a minor refit to my recently aquired sonata. One of my many querries is where to get hold of a new hatch. The old one is the original and sealed closed. The size seems to be 21"x21". Is this a standard size of one of the large hatch maker e.g Lewmar or specialist to Sonata's ? How much should I be paying ? Any advice greatfully received. Thanks

I fitted a new hatch last season which I am fairly certain was the original

It was a Houdini 'Super 50' foredeck hatch 500mm X 500mm HD5050. You can find it via most chandlers or contact Houdini direct they do mail order. You can also find it at http://www.southernmarine.co.uk/index.htm priced at £164.31 which I think is about what I paid last year.

It was OK to fit but expect some of the bolt holes not to line up filling and re-drilling will be required.

Hope this helps
John

I bought a Bomar moulded hatch through West Marine. It cost not much over 100 pounds and is quite good. A bit of trimming of the hatch aperture was required, and some new bolt holes had to be drilled, but it wasn't too difficult. The hatch looks quite good, is waterproof, and comes with a bug screen.
