The National Sonata Association

The National Sonata Association is a society of owners of Sonatas. The aims of the Association are to promote the class, to inform and assist owners, to maintain the integrity of the class rules, to organise sailing competitions and to maintain relationships with other bodies such as the Royal Yachting Association.

Annual General Meeting

The annual general meeting of the National Sonata Association was held at Sunderland Yacht Club on Tuesday 28 August 2007. The next agm will be held at Strangford Lough, date and time to be decided.

How to become a member

If you are not already a member we would be really pleased if you would join us. If you race a Sonata then you are obliged to join the Association. Application forms are available from your area representative or download and print the form and send it with your subscription to the membership secretary, who’s address is on the form.

Class rules

As a Sonata owner, it is your responsibility to ensure that your boat complies with the class rules. If it does not comply fully, then it cannot race as a Sonata! Even if you do not intend to race, following the rules will contribute to the boat’s safety and it will help maintain the value of your boat if you can say with confidence that it complies with the rules. The latest edition of the National Sonata Class Rules is available free as an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file from the Technical Section of the RYA Web Site. The essence of the rules has not changed in the latest 2008 update – some issues have been clarified and the rules have been re-written to comply with the Equipment Rules of Sailing (ERS).
