National Championships

The National Championship runs once a year. We usually try to alternate between a northern and southern location on alternate years.

2009 Championships

Were held at Poole Yacht Club from 28 June to 3 July 2009. Dave Boatman from Hartlepool Marina sailing Blue Tack repeated his winning performance again this year. Jack Grogan and Jess Gozzet from West Mersea YC and Dabchicks SC sailing The Apprentice were second, followed by Mark Lees from the home club in Team Echo. Full results can be downloaded as a pdf file.

2008 Championships

Were held at Strangford Lough Yacht Club, Northern Ireland from 18–22 August. Dave Boatman in Blue Tack won the series, followed by Martin Price (High & Dry) and Neil McLure (So). The report and the results can be downloaded in pdf format.

2007 Championships

Steve Goacher in Eric the Boat won the 2007 Sonata Nationals at Sunderland YC. David Boatman in Blue Tack was second and Harold Lefton in Point Five third. David Matthews has written a report for the web site.

Swinging harbour moorings (the cheapest and safe place to keep your boat) are available in Cowes for the whole of the event.

Ben Graham-Evans is helping to coordinate the Sonata Cowes entries this year. Contact Ben for help with moorings, news of the social scene and to get yourself on the essential "which pub are we all in" text updates after each race to improve SOD (sonata one design) camaraderie!

Sonata membership secretary Tom White is another man who knows about sonatas in Cowes, including moorings, launching and all kinds of other tips.

All you need to do is to enter Cowes ASAP – there are substantial discounts for early bookings. Please don' t be shy – enter Cowes week!!!
