Scarborough Yacht Club

The Sonatas at Scarborough YC belong to one of the longest established fleets in the UK. The sailing is out clear of the harbour, but being on the east coast ensures the race area is protected from the prevailing southwesterlies.

Scarborough has a fairly unique solution to berthing the fin keeled Sonatas in a harbour that dries completely at Low Water Springs. Each boat is moored in a cradle that sits on the harbour bottom. When the tide goes out, the boats settle down snugly for a few hours rest. This view of the boats in their cradles at high water appeared recently as a jigsaw puzzle!
